The view from the floor: Global Finals

Published with Blogger-droid v1.6.9

Saturday

We had another full day! We watched a few challenges, the boys built towers with Kiva planks and went swimming. It's pretty warm today so it makes us more tired.

I am waiting at the hotel for everyone to get back from swimming. The Keene's stayed at the pool with the kids so they could swim longer. Thanks Scott and Sara!

We have dinner, closing ceremonies at 7:30, and the party! Closing ceremonies should be streaming live on the global finals website. The Nebraska delegation will be on the floor tonight, but I am not exactly sure what that means. Look for the white and red Kool-aid shirts.

The bus will leave here at 1 am. I will keep you posted tomorrow regarding when to expect us back to Raymond Central.

Competition site

We are here and we are watching a few challenges before we check in! It's a bit weird to finally be here. I have a mix of feelings sitting here waiting. Nervous and proud. This team has learned so much! I know that however they score, that they will have so much fun figuring out and performing their skit.
I'm also feeling a bit teary-eyed.

Anna felt well enough to go to the party last night, and when we got back to the hotel and she went swimming, yay! We are so happy she is done with whatever bug she had.

Scott and Tommy Keene arrive today so we are hoping that they have good weather all along the way.

We are home from the 3M costume party

Actually, I should call it the 3M party, rather than the duct tape ball. it is pouring here again. What weird weather! I think the forecast predicts more thunderstorms tomorrow.

The kids are going to swim now, though you may see a blog from Liam soon! ;)

Thursday

We completed our instant challenge first thing this morning. Our start to the day was a bit rough because Anna was ill overnight. Sara and I did some very fast problem solving of our own because Anna REALLY wanted to compete. She made it and I think they did well. It was a challenge type that we were not very familiar with, but most of the points were in the team work portion of the challenge. The room they competed in was very stuffy, so this did nothing to help Anna feel better. :(

They completed a cute TADA! Mike, they didn't paint "TADA" on the building like they have when we have been here in the past. Rather, the kids hold a "TADA" sign. Not the same.

We returned to the hotel and the boys and I went to lunch and pin trade. Anna and Sara stayed at the hotel to catch a nap, as their night was very short last night.

The boys and I were stormed out by about 12:30. The entire campus was evacuated into buildings becasue of heavy rain and high winds. We then took it easy until the threat of severe weather passed.

We worked on duct tape costumes and the boys went swimming.

The weather is still overcast here and the chance of rain is quite high.

We have the duct tape ball tonight. I think everyone is looking forward to the ball!

Bird is the Word!

Wuz up people! Just chill'in at the hampton inn. Gonna go and eat some lunch, just ate a snickers. But the car ride here was really long and sitting next to Benny, my brother, is torture. But the opening ceremony was really awesome because they had so many colorful lights! Plus in the lights they said hi and also made a squiggly line! Hehehe. There were so many people and lights, we also started a wave. Plus, our whole team was on the huge screen that they have in the university of Tennessee stadium. Pin trading, my gosh it was so awesome just goin and seeing all of the people from differential nations.

Gotta go! See yah later, Huskers!

Liam's post

Hey hey hey everyone back home!!! We're chillin out in the hotel today due to some anticipation of storms.... unfortuantely. The bright side is that we will probably be able to gett more sweimming in now. We've all got some pretty cool pins, and although i was going to keep in a secret dad... this is too awesome to keep from you. OKay dad, brace yourself.. i got two iPhone pins one white, and and one black. you can take the screens out and replace them with other app screens. I also got the iPad pin which is from Texas. Im excited to see all of you again, but im having fun here.... ZOMBIESSSSSSSSS (inside joke)

franks post

I was sooooo bored during the bus ride to tenesee. But tonight is the duct tape ball soooo....yeah. Liam,Jake, and I are sharing a room. Its pretty awesome. most nights we stay up and watch tv and eat junk food. I think we did pretty well on our instant challenge. We go swimming at the hotel pool a lot. It is pretty small though.
